In Your Eyes

Songwriter/Performer: Peter Gabriel
Category: 80s

British musician Peter Gabriel wrote this song for his 1986 album So. He included it in his Secret World Tour and Secret World Live album as well in 1994, as well as his 2003 compilation album Hit (in the US only).

It's been used for various movies and events since then, including at the end of the 1987 NFL Season when NBC Sports used it to underscore the prologue of the AFC Championship Game between the Denver Broncos and the Cleveland Browns. It also appears in the movies Benny & Joon, The Rocker, and Say Anything (with Cameron Crowe).

It's also been covered by various artists back then and in more recent years, including Sara Bareilles (2007), Renee Fleming (2010) and Quietdrive (2011).

Surprisingly, I can't locate sheet music for this song. If you come across it, please let me know!

LYRICS

Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I choose
I come back to the place you are

All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes

Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
