Let It Be Me

Songwriter: Gilbert Bécaud/Pierre Delanoë (French lyrics); Mann Curtis (English lyrics)
Category: Golden Oldies, 70s, , Country, Contemporary

This is a classic song that probably different people associate with different singers, depending on when they first heard it. Those whose musical tastes prefer the 60s will remember the Everly Brothers, who were the first to make this song famous.

But several other artists have also covered the song in the decades since then (which incidentally was originally a 1955 French tune called "Je t'appartiens"), including Sonny & Cher, Glen Campbell, Leonard Nimoy (really!), Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Roberta Flack, Willie Nelson, Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond, and Rosie Thomas.

LYRICS

I'm blessed the day I found you
I want to stay around you
And so I beg you
Let it be me

Don't take this heaven from one
If you must cling to someone
Now and forever
Let it be me

Cause each time we meet, love
I find complete love
Without your sweet love
What would life be?

So never leave me lonely
Tell me you love me only
Now and forever
Let it be me

Each time we meet, love
I find complete love
Without your sweet love
What would life be?

So never leave me lonely
Tell me you love me only
And that you'll always
Let it be me
