One Hand One Heart

Songwriter: Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim
Performers: various
Category: Golden Oldie

Most people have heard of the Broadway musical West Side Story, either because of its Broadway production, or because of the Hollywood movie version. A lot of popular songs came out of it, including Maria, I Feel Pretty, Something's Coming, America, Tonight, and this song which is a popular choice for unity ceremonies at weddings.

It is sung by the two stars of the movie, Tony and Maria, who are each connected to rival New York gangs, but fall in love with one another. They sing this song in the bridal shop, dreaming of their future together.

Sheet music (piano/vocal, can be piano solo)

LYRICS

TONY
Make of our hands one hand,
Make of our hearts one heart,
Make of our vows one last vow:
Only death will part us now.

MARIA
Make of our lives one life,
Day after day, one life.

BOTH
Now it begins, now we start
One hand, one heart;
Even death won't part us now.

Make of our lives one life,
Day after day, one life.
Now it begins, now we start
One hand, one heart,
Even death won't part us now
