Where E'er You Walk

Composer: Handel
Category: Classical

Handel wrote his opera Semele in 1744. He billed it as being "in the manner of an oratorio" (an opera-like work on a Biblical theme) in order to have it staged at a more likely time for him to get paid - during the Lenten season when audiences were bigger. But the opera was anything but Biblical, being based on the story of the romance of the Greek god Jupiter and the mortal girl Semele.

The aria Where E'er You Walk comes from the second act, where Jupiter sings to Semele of the way even nature bows to her beauty.

LYRICS

Where e'er you walk
Cool gales shall fan the glade
Trees where you sit
Shall crowd into a shade
Trees where you sit
Shall crowd into shade

Where e'er you tread
The blushing flowers shall rise
And all things flourish
And all things flourish
Where e'er you turn your eyes
Where e'er you turn your eyes
Where e'er you turn your eyes
