You Are So Beautiful

Songwriters: Billy Preston, Bruce Fisher
Performer: Joe Cocker, others
Category: 70s

This song was apparently written on the spur of the moment at a party. It was initially a more up-tempo song, until Joe Cocker's famous slower version became more well-known. It's been covered by a lot of artists (Zucchero, Captain and Tennille, Diana Ross, Westlife, Babyface, Perry Como, Doris Day) and shown up in many movies and TV shows (The Wonder Years, Full House, Two and a Half Men, Desperate Housewives, Carlito's Way, The Simpsons, American Idol), which is probably why most people are familiar with it.

Al Green's version has an additional verse, which I've included in the lyrics below.

LYRICS

You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me
Can't you see
You're everything I'd hoped for
You're everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

Such joy and happiness you bring
Such joy and happiness you bring
Like a dream
you're everything, I hoped for
You're everything that I need
You are so beautiful to me
